Strict city-wide ban on public surveillance tools and companies, such as Flock and Axon.
Anti-Surveillance - Get Flock Out !!
The city has only declared a pause the use of Flock because of pauses to grants at the state level, these cameras are still running and though the city has approved their removal within 60 days, the fight for anti-surveillance continues.
All other contracts with competitors that provide the same technology, such as Axon need to be terminated, and an alternative sought.
Nation-wide cities and states have paused their use of Flock just as Axon started disseminating their version of license plate reader cameras. Currently the city has a contract with Axon, they are the company that provides body-cameras for the police. It is my belief that the removal of Flock will only be replaced by the adoption of these Axon cameras. And because the city already has an ongoing contract with Axon spanning years, it will be easier to insert the cameras into contract amendments, future contracts, and larger budgets, making it harder to spot these additions and harder to fight the Axon cameras.aking it harder to spot these additions and harder to fight the Axon cameras.
We need to champion regulations that would prohibit private entities from surveilling public sectors. Private companies that use Flock or Axon cameras, or similar anti-privacy technology, should not be allowed to position them facing/recording/streaming public owned areas, like sidewalks, parks or schools.
